Mangalore: State High Court Judge decries wastage

Mangalore, March 23, 2008: State High Court judge H.N.Nagamohan Das has decried the phenomenal wastage of financial funding as well as Human resources and manpower wastage in the dispensing of justice. Speaking at a function organized by the District bar council here today Justice Mr. Das stated that fifty percent of the 2.7 crore cases pending in various courts of the country were filed against the government and government servants, which gives an overall picture of the kind of service given by the government sector.
According to the ageing process of the cases which are waiting in line at the various courts a single litigation takes 18 years to mature which is definitely justice denied he added. The theme of the lecture he delivered was Achievements of the Indian judicial system and challenges before it.
During the course of the lecture Justice Das said that due to this delay people were driven into using their own methods of seeking justice which involves a number of corrupt practices and painfully so that the entire judicial system gets the wrath of the people he added. This delay was also gradually eroding the faith and confidence of the people and the litigants in the judicial system which was a dangerous thing, considering judiciary was one of the arms of the constitution.
Justice Das stated that the advocates should try to settle the litigations out of the court as far as possible which would give a chance to the judiciary to take up only those litigations that really need the intervention of the judiciary.
