Demolition case: HC issues notice to Rockland Hospital

New Delhi, April 8: The Delhi High Court today issued a notice to south Delhi-based Rockland Hospital, after the court-appointed Monitoring Committee pointed out that the DDA had failed to check misuse of the land, allotted to a society earlier for construction of a cancer research centre.A Division Bench of Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rekha Sharma also issued notices to DDA and the Delhi police which is investigating the financial irregularities allegedly committed by DDA officials and the hospital management. In an urgent application, the monitoring committee told the Bench that the land in Qutub Institutional Area was earlier, allotted to the Foundation for Applied Research and Cancer Society but later a commercial hospital was constructed on it.It was alleged that the Society had obtained the land at a concessional rate for a noble purpose and had taken exemption from the Income Tax department."Although many such buildings have been sealed by DDA in the area but no action has been taken so far against the hospital," the Monitoring Committee members alleged. It was further contended that the Economic Offence Wing of the Delhi police has failed to complete the investigation which was initiated in January last year."The society has openly flouted all rules and regulations where DDA Vice Chairman has even recommended cancellation of the lease deed about a year ago but no action against the society has been taken so far," with this allegation the Monitoring Committee sought court's direction for appropriate action against the hospital. The Bench was hearing a PIL pertaining to removal of unauthorised constructions in the city.
