He succeeds Justice A.P. Shah
New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil in consultation with Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan has transferred Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, A.K. Ganguly to be the Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
To assume office on May 19
He succeeds Justice A.P. Shah, who has been transferred as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Justice Ganguly is likely to assume office on May 19.
Justice Ganguly (61), who hails from West Bengal, was appointed as permanent Judge of the Calcutta High Court in January, 1994. He was transferred to the Patna High Court in April 1994. After more than six years, he was transferred to the Calcutta High Court in August 2000.
He was shifted to the Orissa High Court in April, 2006 and became its Acting Chief Justice in January 2007 and became the regular Chief justice on March 2, 2007.
