Kochi (PTI): Fearing arrest, self-styled Godman Amrita Chaitanya, who is alleged to have swindled about Rs 45 lakh from a Keralite woman in the Gulf, on Monday moved the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail.
Claiming to be 'totally innocent', Chaitanya alias Santosh Madhavan, said the woman, who had levelled the allegations against him, had not made any formal complaint to the Kerala police till date. The incident is said to have occurred in 2002. He has not cheated anybody, he claimed.
Chaitanya submitted that whatever money he had raised was his own and raised from NRIs and other friends. He said he was willing to abide by any condition the court may impose and was willing to cooperate with the investigation.
The anticipatory bail application will come up before the vacation bench on Tuesday.
The police had two days ago raided his guest house and residence in the city and other properties in other districts of the state. Land documents, liqour bottles, porn CDs were among the articles recovered during the raid at his residence here.
The UAE interpol has put out a lookout notice against him in the cheating case.
