Bombay HC to hear arms dealer Suresh Nanda’s bail plea
Zeenews.com; March 26, 2008, Zeenews Bureau Mumbai, March 19: The Bombay High Court will on Wednesday hear the bail petition of arms dealer Suresh Nanda, who is accused of receiving kickbacks in the high-profile Barak missile defence deal. Last week, Suresh Nanda, along with his son and two others, was sent to three-day CBI custody by a Delhi court. The Nandas are under scanner for their alleged role as middlemen in the defence deals and for deliberately manipulating evidence in an income tax case against them. Nanda`s son Sanjeev, who is an accused in the BMW hit-and-run case, Chartered Accountant Bipin Shah and Deputy Director of Income Tax Ashutosh Verma, were produced before designated CBI judge I K Kochar, who remanded them to 3-days CBI custody. The four were arrested in Mumbai on March 8 and were produced before Additional Sessions Judge in Mumbai who had sent them on a transit remand here. Earlier, the CBI counsel sought a 10-day custody of the accused to unearth details in the case. The counsel said the accused had to be confronted with various documents seized during the raids at different places after their arrest. They also had to be questioned on the recovery of Rs 55 lakh from Shah`s residence. The CBI alleged that the accused made contradictory statements during interrogation about the purpose of their meeting at a hotel in Mumbai.
