MUMBAI: Bombay High Court will swear in its 53rd judge on Monday. In a formal swearing-in ceremony that will be held at the central court room in the heritage precincts of the HC at Fort, Sambhajirao Shinde, a Supreme Court advocate with over two decades of experience, will be appointed as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court.
Sources in the HC confirmed that Shinde who hails from Beed district, has represented the state government in the HC at Mumbai and largely in the Supreme Court.
Shinde’s appointment, in addition to the 52 sitting judges of HC and its benches at Aurangabad, Nagpur and Goa, comes as a welcome move for the court that has over three lakh pending cases. But, Shinde’s assignment has not yet been confirmed. Last year the union Law ministry had raised the strength of sanctioned judges in the Bombay HC from 75 to 64.
