Jodhaa screening in UP to continue: SC

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday took note of an application by the ‘Rajput Sabha’ from Rajasthan objecting to the depiction of Jodha Bai as the wife of Akbar in the controversial Hritik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai starrer movie Jodhaa Akbar and issued notice to the producer on this issue. Appearing for the ‘Rajput Sabha’, senior advocate Altaf Ahmed said that the community was hurt by the depiction of Jodha Bai as the wife of emperor Akbar and questioned, "How can Akbar's daughter-in-law be shown as his wife?" Not sure whether to get into the controversy generated by the interpretation of historical facts differently by different groups, a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran issued notice to the producer, UTV Software Communication Ltd, and asked it to file response to the application. However, the court agreed with the producer's counsel Ashok Desai to continue the stay order operating on the UP government's decision to ban screening of the film in the state following protests against it in parts of the country.
