TN legislation to remove irritants faced by industrialists

Coimbatore (PTI): In an industry-friendly move, Tamil Nadu Government would soon bring out a legislation that would remove 'some irritants' faced by businessmen, a top official said on Friday.
Though the industrial and investment climate was very conducive in the state, there were 'some irritants' such as delay in building approval and licence, Information Technology Secretary Dr C Chandramouli told reporters here.
The government wanted to remove these irritants and make ease of business through a legislation, he said.
The legislation would make different agencies and departments more industry-friendly, Chandramouli said.
Saying that the Centre had recently sanctioned Rs.six crore to Tamil Nadu for infrastructure to impart training to trainers in the IT and ITES sector, which lacked the necessary skilled professionals, he said the government was awaiting the nod from industries for setting up an autonomous IT Academy, on a public-private partnership basis.
The government was also discussing with NASSCOM about conducting a test for competency for those students joining the IT profession, he said.
Earlier, inaugurating the 8th edition of 'Connect Coimbatore 2008,+ jointly organised by CII and ELCOT, Chandramouli said the government intended to make IT as engine of growth of state's economy and wanted it to contribute at least 25 per cent share by 2011.
