Convict escape case: HC asks PP to provide constables’ names

Panaji, April 18 The single Judge of the Bombay High court, Mr Justice S A Bobde has directed the public prosecutor appearing on behalf of the State to give the names of the two constables who were escorting Julio Araujo, who escaped from custody outside the high court premises yesterday. The matter has been kept for hearing in the next week.
The court has also asked for explanation as to how the convict managed to escape from their custody. It was also noted that the convict was not summoned by the court.
Araujo was convicted in another case and was confined to Sada sub-jail at Vasco. He was brought before the high court after an appeal was filed against his acquittal in a cheques bouncing case under section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act. He managed to make good his escape outside the high court premises inspite of being escorted by two constables.
