Bombay HC to hear PIL on medical seats tomorrow

The Bombay High Court is likely to hear a public interest litigation tomorrow, seeking direction to increase the number of medical post-graduate seats in colleges across Maharashtra, which will determine the fate of at least 242 students. The PIL, filed by Peoples' Health Organisation (PHO), an NGO, will come up for hearing before a division bench comprising Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice A A Kumbhakoni. The NGO has sought direction from the court to increase the number of seats so that the fate of doctors, aspiring for medical PG course, can be decided.Earlier, on May 12, when the matter was heard, the bench had questioned the wisdom of the Director of Medical Education and Research for issuing a circular that had halted admissions in the second round comprising 242 PG seats. The petitioner had raised the issue of urgency in this matter, as the deadline for the admissions in the course is May 31, which is near by and state will also need some time before the deadline to streamline admissions.UNI
