JAIPUR: The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday gave its nod to the selection procedure adopted by the state government for the appointment of the gram sevaks in the state under the National Rural Empowerment Guarantee Scheme. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Narayan Roy and Justice M Rafiq dismissed a public interest litigation on Thursday which has challenged the procedure being adopted for the appointment of gram sevaks on the ground that the implementation of schemes under the rules is with the gram panchayat and the same has been sidelined. The petitioner, gram pradhan of Tamkor in Jhunjhunu district, alleged in the PIL that the gram panchayat is in better position to know the needs of the employment in the locality. The exparte interim order preventing the state government from filling the vacancies has also been rescinded, thereby giving the green signal for selections of gram sevaks across the state.
