Cuttack (Orissa) (PTI): The Orissa High Court on Wednesdayupheld a death sentence, awarded to a man for the rape and murder of a five-year old girl by a lower court, terming the case as one of the 'rarest'.
The bench of Justice B P Das and Justice M M Das while rejecting the appeal of Purna Chandra Kushal alias Chhotu, a native of Chhatisgrh, for commuting the death sentence of Additional Sessions Court, Rourkela, termed the crime as heinous, one of the rarest and fit for capital punishment.
Kushal was arrested by Sudargarh police in November 2002 on charge of raping and killing the five-year-old days back.
He was convicted and sentenced to death by the sessions court in December 2004.
