LUCKNOW: CM Mayawati has requested PM Manmohan Singh to include Lonia, Nonia and Lonia-Chauhan castes living in UP in the Scheduled Caste (SC) category. In a letter to the prime minister, she urged him to carry out the necessary amendment in the Constitution so that so that these castes could get the benefit of reservation. "The socio-economic and educational condition of Lonia, Nonia and Lonia-Chauhan castes was such that they were not able to join the national mainstream," she said. Besides, the CM has also demanded an increase in the percentage of reservation quota keeping in view the present population of these castes. In an earlier letter to the prime minister, Mayawati had demanded inclusion of 12 castes viz Kahar, Kashyap, Kewat, Mallah, Nishad, Kumhar, Prajapati, Bind, Bhar, Rajbhar, Dimar, Botham, Gond, Majhi and Machhua in the SC category. She has requested the PM to take an early decision in this regard.
