Delhi HC issues notice to Yahoo on T-Series petition

Televisionpoint.com Correspondent New DelhiThe Delhi High Court on May 30, 2008 issued a notice to Yahoo Inc and its Indian subsidiary, Yahoo Web Services (India), on a suit filed by Super Cassettes Industries Ltd, owner of T-Series, for infringement of their copyright caused by unlicensed hosting of Super Cassettes Industries' copyright works on Yahoo's portal.A similar infringement was seen last year when T-Series had filed a case against YouTube and Google Inc, and was successful in obtaining an interim restraint against them. Yahoo was asked to remove all contents owned by T-Series. However, in response to the legal notice, Yahoo Inc reverted with their standard reply taking refuge under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), an American law, and asked T-Series to notify Yahoo in accordance with DMCA.An statement from the music company says, "T-Series was thus compelled to move the Delhi High Court to protect its copyright. Along with issuing notice to Yahoo, the Delhi High Court also passed an interim-injunction against Yahoo and specifically ordered that Yahoo, its officers, agents, servants and representatives, are restrained from reproducing, adapting, distributing or transmitting in any manner on their website or otherwise, infringing the copyright of T-Series in any manner, whether films and songs and underlying copyright works, without obtaining an appropriate license from T-Series." Hearing in the Yahoo case had been posted for September-end, 2008.
