Ahmedabad, July 20 JSM to file public interest litigation against Asaram’s followers, seeks CBI probe in the case
Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM), a non-government civil rights body, is all set to file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Gujarat High Court against the supporters of Asaram Bapu, who allegedly wreaked havoc during the Ahmedabad Bandh on Friday.
"What happened was completely unwarranted and uncalled for in democracy," said Mukul Sinha, an advocate from the Manch. He added, "We will seek guidance from the High Court in this regard and a PIL will be filed in the coming week." Sinha, who visited Prafulbhai Vaghela, father of Dipesh — one of the two ashram students who were found dead under mysterious conditions — extended the Manch's support in seeking a CBI inquiry into the case.
"There is no point in wasting time, as the family has completely lost faith in the local police. The case should be immediately handed over to the CBI. Further delay will only cause loss of evidence," he said. Several people were beaten up and over 40 four-wheelers were set ablaze near Asaram Gurukul at Motera. Seven journalists were also beaten up by the ashram followers.
