Court seeks city bus route map

Ranchi, June 9: Jharkhand High Court has directed the state government to submit details of the route map to be followed by city buses.
The division bench has also sought information on the number of buses to be run by the transport department to enhance the connectivity of the city. It has also demanded an affidavit by June 17.
The court was apprised of the hurdles commuters faced due to the lack of city buses, which are run by the government in other cities.
Petitioner Janak Kumar Mishra had moved the high court in a PIL stating that people commuting from distant places are stranded as there is no bus service in place. The population has also increased and an alternative transport system needs to be developed, Mishra said.
He said that vehicular population has also increased considerably and there is lot of pressure on city roads. Moreover, the capital is also expanding and no arrangements have been made for transport network.
Earlier, the high court had directed advocate-general S.B. Gadodia to hold meetings with government officials and chalk out a strategy to introduce bus services in the city. Gadodia, in compliance with the order, held meetings with government officials, including the district administration.
The officials were willing to start the bus service, the advocate general said. “No auto-rickshaws will ply on the bus routes and buses will ply at 15-minute intervals, Gadodia had said.
He pointed out that the transport commissioner with other officials of the district administration has arranged meetings and the bus routes will be published in local dailies soon. Meetings with auto-rickshaw and bus drivers will be held.
