HC hears dead matka king’s petition

Four days after his death, the Bombay high court on Wednesday heard a petition that was filed by matka king Suresh Bhagat seeking expeditious action on an application he had made to the police.
Bhagat, who was killed in a road accident on June 13, had written to the police commissioner on March 13, that there were attempts to kill him.
Since Bhagat is no more, justice BH Marlapalle and justice JH Bhatia have asked his legal heir to file an application on his behalf. They adjourned the case till June 24.
Bhagat’s counsel SR Chitnis told the court that in his letter to the commissioner, Bhagat had claimed that his estranged wife Jaya Chheda, her alleged paramour Suhas Roge, and Kiran Pujari, an alleged member of the Arun Gawli, were conspiring to kill him. The letter alleged that Jaya was trying to take over his business and properties.
The CID had said it would probe Bhagat’s complaint. However, no action was taken, Chitnis told the court. Bhagat was, therefore, compelled to move the HC, he said.
