New Delhi: The Association of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) primary school teachers yesterday approached the Delhi High Court (HC) highlighting the problems faced by them in doing election duties after school hours.
Hearing the teachers' plea, a division bench comprising of Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar asked the Government counsel for a detail report on the number of hours MCD school teachers work for the election duties.
The Bench has also asked the Election Commission of India about how long the process would take, while hearing a petition filed by All Delhi Prathmik Shikshak Sangh which alleged that teachers were forced to do election duty on working days as well as holidays.
Teachers are appointed by the Delhi Government on a request from the Election Commission of India. Women and handicapped teachers are also appointed for election duties.
Teachers allege that they have to visit several constituencies and as a result they do not get time for their family and physical rest.
