New Delhi, July 22: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to adjourn the hearing on the Sethusamudram project. Replying to a plea of the petitioner to defer the hearing of the case by three weeks and wait for the outcome of the trust vote in Parliament on Tuesday, a bench headed by the Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, justice R.V. Ravindran and J.M. Panchal said "How are we concerned with the trust motion? This court is concerned only with judicial matters. So many things are happening in this country, but we are concerned only with this case"
Earlier, in May this year, the court, during a 5-day session heard the petitioners demanding that the Adam’s bridge, or Ram Sethu, be declared a national monument.
Senior advocates appearing for the petitioner opposing the project reminded the court about its last order asking the Centre to explore the possibility of declaring the Ram Sethu as a national historical monument.
They sought the government’s view on the issue before arguing further.
