Supreme Court defers hearing on case against Mayawati

New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Friday postponed till November 3 the hearing on a case relating to alleged amassing of disproportionate assets by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
The hearing on her writ petition seeking quashing of the FIR filed by the CBI in the disproportionate assets case against her was shifted to November 3 due to "exessive number of cases before the court on that day", Supreme Court officials said.
Earlier, the hearing was scheduled for July 28.
The CBI had filed a counter-affidavit in reply to her writ petition challenging the validity of the case against her.
The CBI counter-affidavit was filed after BSP had withdrawn support to the UPA government.
The BSP supremo accused the CBI of being a "political tool", a charge vehemntly denied by the investigating agency.
In its counter-affidavit, the CBI had claimed Mayawati adopted delaying tactics by filing "numerous" petitions before the investigating agency.
Detailing her income in a counter-affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the CBI alleged Mayawati has not given some of the details of the institutions or banks where the deposits have been made.
"She has not given the details of other immovable properties in her name including agricultural land.
