Mumbai (PTI): The Bombay High Court acquitted a man undergoing a life sentence for murder charges, after having served 11 years behind bars.
The sessions court at Beed had convicted Asaram Dake (36), a sugarcane labourer, in July 1997 for the murder of 15-year-old Shivkanya Choure, with whom he allegedly had an illicit relation.
Justices Naresh Patil and P R Borkar of the Aurangabad bench passed the order of Asaram's acquittal last week, observing that the evidence of the key witnesses in the case "does not inspire confidence so as to base conviction on their evidence in this case".
