No urgent hearing on plea against Mallya's IPL team: SC

New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court has refused an urgent hearing on a plea that liquor baron Vijay Mallya-owned Bangalore team for the Indian Premier League (IPL) be restrained from playing under the banner of "The Royal Challengers".
The petition filed by a Faridabad-based resident, Kishan Kumar Aggarwal, alleged that under the garb of "The Royal Challengers Bangalore Team", the United Breweries Group was seeking to promote its brands of liquor.
However, a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, declined the plea of his lawyer that the petition required to be heard urgently as the cricket league involving eight teams is scheduled to start within two days on April 18.
The Bench also questioned the motive of the petitioner for filing such petition.
"You are from which brand. Are you also promoting some brand," the Bench, also comprising Justice R V Raveendran, observed making it clear that the petition will be taken up for hearing in a routine manner.
