CFAI files appeal against HC order

NEW DELHI: The US-based Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFAI) has appealed against the dismissal of its writ petition by the Delhi High Court last December, which had challenged a notice ordering the institute to wind up its course for financial analysts in India from May 2007. The notice was served by the regulatory authority, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The notice bars CFAI from holding examinations for its distance course in the country. While filing the appeal in the Delhi HC, CFAI officials also said the institute has applied to AICTE for approval of the course. The ban on CFAI's operation in India had led David Mulford, the US Ambassador to India, to take up the issue with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Montek Singh Ahluwalia. In his letter dated February 11, 2008, Mulford had urged a rethink on the decision to shut down the institute, 10 years after it had opened in India. Copies of the letter were sent to the PM and HRD minister Arjun Singh.
