Shimla: Five persons facing life imprisonment over murder charges were acquitted by the the Himachal High Court today. The Dharamshala fast track court had convicted the five person for collectively murdering one Balbir Chand, a resident of Pragpur village in Kangra district by beating him to death with sticks.
Turning down the fast track court decision a division bench consisting of Justice Surjit Singh and Justice Surender Thakur observed that the prosecution has been unable to prove the allegations of murder beyond reasonable doubts and therefore the accused cant not be convicted.
Defense counsels, Anup Chitkara and TR Chandel had taken up the plea before the bench that there were contradictions between the allegations levelled by the police and the statements made of the witnesses.
