Chennai (PTI): Criticising the "lack of vision" among politicians, a Supreme Court Judge on Sunday alleged none of them had the courage to see the Women's Reservation Bill through.
"During every Parliament session, every other Member of Parliament speaks about the Women's Reservation Bill, but no one has the courage to see it through," Justice P Sathasivam said after inaugurating the week-long diamond jubilee celebrations of Ethiraj College, a popular women's college here.
Supporting women's causes, he called for organising of Women's Guidance Centres in districts, comprising qualified social workers, lawyers, doctors and family counselors, by voluntary organisations.
He also asked state governments and the Department of Public Grievances, Government of India,to set up special cells for enforcement of laws to ensure women's rights and protection.
"A special division under a Commissioner for Women's rights may be created in the nodal department to liaise with such special cells," he said.
Justice Sadasivam also released the diamond jubilee souvenir on the occasion. Justice S Jagadesan, chairman of the Ethiraj College Trust, received the first copy.
