NEW DELHI: Sparks are ready to fly between telecom regulator Trai and private operators over Trai’s attempt to impose stiff financial penalties on operators in his crackdown on pesky commercial calls. As Trai has refused to reconsider its regulation, as it comes after a rigorous consultation process, operators are now preparing legal challenge. When contacted, Trai chairman, N Misra said, "Regulations are not made for review. It is final". Trai said it is ready for a legal battle if the firms decide to move court against its decision to impose penalty on unsolicited calls. Industry associations, Auspi and COAI on Tuesday jointly wrote to Misra asking him to withdraw the penalties, while reminding him that under the Trai Act, he had no right to penalize operators.
