Former CJI to resolve disputes of Today Homes, LIT

Chandigarh, April 04 In order to resolve the ongoing disputes between M/s Today Homes and Infrastructure Private Limited, New Delhi, and Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT), the Punjab and Haryana High Court today appointed former Chief Justice of India R C Lahoti as the arbitrator in the case.
The company which was constructing the Ludhiana city centre project had moved the High Court demanding appointment of an arbitrator to resolve the dispute with LIT. The company had sought interim measure of protection with regard to construction of city centre at Ludhiana.
The company has sought quashing of a letter dated September 14, 2006, whereby the LIT had appointed an arbitrator for audit of accounts of the company pertaining to the project. The company has further sought stay on the letter dated October 5, 2006 of the LIT whereby the bookings/sale/lease in city centre, Ludhiana given to M/s Today Homes and Infrastructure was cancelled.
The company had alleged that the agreements had been cancelled after the change of the government.
On the other hand, the Trust has alleged that there is no proper sanction given by the government and the agreement was void.
Moreover, the stand taken by the Trust and the government was that the agreement given to the company was illegal and a criminal case was pending with the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
The Trust has taken the stand that the former Congress government had shook hands with the company and top officials including the politicians were bribed in order to get the agreement.
The company has moved the High Court demanding directions to government to restrain from causing in any manner any hindrance in the construction/execution, implementation, lease, sale of project.
Now, the matter between the two parties will be resolved by Lahoti.
