Kochi (PTI): The High Court here on Thursday stayed further proceedings in a criminal defamation case against Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, pending before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Thiruvananthapuram.
The case relates to the publication of a news report in the 'Deshabhimani' daily on July 17, 2002 when Achuthanandan was its Chief Editor.
Achuthanandan had contended that the Chief Editor is not responsible for selection of news items.
The defamation case was instituted in 2002 before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-III Thiruvananthapuram by one M M Yacub.
Justice V Ramkumar admitted the petition today and granted an interim stay of all proceedings pending before trial court.
