MUMBAI: Ten years after he flashed his neighbour, Bombay High Court on Tuesday convicted a man for outraging the woman's modesty. Justice R Y Ganoo agreed with the trial court that in such cases of sexual harassment, despite the lack of any corroborative evidence, the testimony of the woman can be relied upon if it was found to be "consistent (and) reliable". The HC upheld the judgment of the trial court asking Shivaram Hambare (48), a government servant, to pay a fine of Rs 3,000 or in default undergo imprisonment for 30 days. The prosecution's case was that on May 21, 1998, Hambare abused Sheela and then went on to pull down his pants and expose his private parts. The court held Hambare guilty of outraging the modesty of a woman with words and gesture under section 509 of the Indian Penal Code.
