LUCKNOW: The high court has imposed Rs 2 lakh cost on the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and Rs 2,000 on former vice-chairman Harbhajan Singh in a contempt case and directed that if he fails to make the payment, he would have to undergo three days' simple imprisonment. Besides, the court also imposed Rs 50,000 cost on the petitioner Jitendra Mohan, for making false averments in pleadings while dismissing the contempt petition. According to the petitioner, the LDA was taking possession of certain land owned by him near Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Gomtinagar without issuing notification for acquiring it. In 1996, the high court has passed an interim order restraining the LDA from acquiring the land. By the passes of time, as the court found, on the land in question a portion of Lohia hospital was constructed and several other building establishments were also raised there. In 2007, the petitioner filed contempt petition with submission that the land was vacant and the LDA took its possession in violation of the court's 1996 restraint order.
