Kolkata (PTI): Upholding the IIT-JEE authority decision on cut-off marks for the 2006 joint entrance examination, the Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered that this was absolutely in the domain of the authorities.
Rejecting a petition filed by aN unsuccessful candidate for the 2006 IIT-JEE, Justice Biswanath Somadder held that the court found nothing wrong in the cut-off marks fixed by the examination authorities for each subject or the system adopted for it.
Justice Somadder said the setting of cut-off marks for a IIT-JEE examination was in the domain of the authorities and the court could not supplement it.
Sanchit Bansal, a candidate for the 2006 examination and son of an IIT-Kharagpur professor, had filed the case against the IIT-JEE authorities claiming the cut-off marks decided for each of the three subjects -- Maths, Physics and Chemistry had been wrongly increased by the exam authorities.
Bansal claimed had the cut-off marks not been pushed up, he, along with many other such unsuccessful candidates, would have been able to clear the IIT-JEE, which is decided both on aggregate and also cut-off marks for each subject.
IIT-Kharagpur was the institute in-charge for the entrance examination in 2006, counsels for the IIT authorities Moloy Bose and R N Majumdar said.
