HC refuses to stay process to purchase Doppler weather radar

New Delhi (PTI): The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to restrain the government from going ahead with its plan to purchase Doppler weather radar for the air force.
A Bench headed by Justice S N Agrawal declined to grant any relief to the petitioner who alleged that the procedure followed by the Centre was illegal and non-transparent as no open tender was issued for the purchase of the Rs 70 crore defence equipment.
"We are not inclined to interfere in the matter as we are of the view that the government has taken right decision," the Court said.
The Court also said that the matter is meaningless when informed by the Centre that the tender was opened on Thursday.
The Centre, however, refuted all the allegations and said that it had followed right procedure and there was no illegality in it.
"The government has followed a uniform policy and disclosure of specification regarding defence deals is neither in national security interest nor in public interest," advocate Sanjeev Kumar Dubey appearing for Centre said adding that limited tender enquiry issued in this deal was not an isolated case.
He contended that it was well established procedure followed by the government to use limited tender enquiry in cases of capital investment made by defence force.
