Kochi (PTI): The Kerala High court has directed all private medical colleges in the state to collect only Rs 2.60 lakh annual fee prescribed by the Justice P A Mohammed Admission supervisory committee for management seats till the Supreme Court gives its nod to the fee structure agreement arrived at between them and the state government.
The order was issued by Justice S Sirijagan on a petition filed by Fathima Hasseena and others, stating that the agreement should not be implemented as it was illegal, arbitrary and needs to be quashed.
As per the agreement on fee structure and seat sharing, the annual fee for management seats had been fixed at Rs 5 lakh. The managements were also allowed to collect Rs 5 lakh as refundable deposit.
This fee structure would be applicable to the 35 per cent management seats in Kochi and Kannur cooperative self financing medical colleges, which had also entered into an agreement with the state government.
Four private college managements which refused to be part of the agreement can collect only a fee ranging from Rs 2.4 lakh-Rs 2.5 lakh annually and cannot collect the refundable deposit also.
The petitioners submitted that agreement had not been approved either by the Mohammed committee or the Apex court and was on the higher side.
