Cuttack, April 25: Here is good news for those concerned about environment and pubic health. Orissa High Court has ordered for a complete ban on manufacture, import, storage, sale and use of recycled polythene in the State.
Hearing a public interest petition by Federation of Consumer Organisations of Orissa, a Division Bench of the Court comprising Chief Justice A.K. Ganguly and Justice Indrajit Mohanty passed the order on Thursday.
The ban would come into effect from May 1, the Judges ordered.
The Court also directed the State government to file an action taken report by May 15.
The Judges observed that the State government had not taken any effective measure to check use of recycled polythene when 13 States in the country had already banned its use.
The State government had banned use, storage and littering of polythene carry bags less than 20 micron thick in January 2004. But no restrictions were imposed with regard to recycled polythene.
The January 2004 order of the State government was also not implemented in properly in any part of the State.
